Greetings,
My daughter's HP ENVY x360 Convert 15m-es1013dx is having an issue with BIOS corruption. The laptop will not boot past the BIOS error. I attempted BIOS recovery using a USB drive and the "HP_TOOLS" diagnostic boot for this laptop, but then I get an error message that says: The BIOS recovery files cannot be found or the files are corrupted." I have attempted this with many different USB drives. The tool successfully formats the USB drive to FAT32 and transfers many files to the drive under two directories, "HP" and "Hewlett Packard." No matter what I try, the laptop still says that the BIOS recovery files are corrupted. How can I recover the BIOS or install a new BIOS?

Hi @93jnf8rn3409vhd,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Dealing with BIOS corruption on your HP ENVY x360 Convert 15 can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to try to resolve this issue.
Verify BIOS Recovery File Integrity
Make sure that the files transferred to the USB drive are not corrupted. Sometimes, even though the tool transfers files, they might not be correctly written or could be corrupted during the transfer process. Here’s what you can do:
- Use a Different Tool: Instead of relying on the HP_TOOLS diagnostic boot, try using the official BIOS recovery tool provided by HP specifically for your model. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop’s model number, and look for BIOS updates and recovery tools.
- Manual Transfer: If possible, manually transfer the BIOS recovery files to the USB drive. Download the latest BIOS update from HP’s website, extract it, and follow the instructions to transfer the necessary files to the USB drive.
Ensure USB Drive Compatibility
Some USB drives might not be fully compatible with the BIOS recovery process. Here are some tips:
- Use a Different USB Drive: Try using a different USB drive from a reputable brand. Preferably use a USB 2.0 drive as sometimes USB 3.0 drives can have compatibility issues with older BIOS recovery processes.
- Format the USB Drive Properly: Format the USB drive to FAT32 file system before transferring the BIOS recovery files. This ensures compatibility with the BIOS recovery process.
Verify BIOS Recovery Process
Ensure that you are following the correct steps for BIOS recovery on your specific model. Typically, this involves:
- Inserting the USB drive with the BIOS recovery files into the designated USB port on your laptop.
- Powering on the laptop and pressing the specific key or key combination to initiate BIOS recovery (refer to your laptop’s manual for the correct key combination).
By carefully following these steps, you should be able to either recover your BIOS or install a new one, resolving the boot issue on your HP ENVY x360 Convert 15.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the suggestions Alden4. How can I get the "official BIOS recovery tool"? When I enter the laptop's serial number into the product support page I don't see any option to download a BIOS file or the BIOS recovery tool.
Thanks

Hi @93jnf8rn3409vhd,
Thank you for your response,
Here are the steps you can take to obtain the official BIOS recovery tool and restore your BIOS.
Visit HP Support Website:
- Go to the official HP Support website: HP Support.
- Enter your laptop's model number or serial number into the search box to locate the support page for your specific model.
Navigate to Drivers and Downloads:
- Once you're on the support page for your laptop model, look for a section typically labeled as "Drivers" or "Software and Drivers".
Find BIOS Update/Recovery Tool:
- In the list of available drivers and software, look specifically for anything related to BIOS updates or BIOS recovery tools.
- HP sometimes provides a specific utility or tool designed for BIOS recovery, especially if your BIOS is corrupted.
Download the BIOS Recovery Tool:
- If you find a BIOS recovery tool listed, click on it to open the download page.
- Follow the instructions to download the tool. Make sure to download the version that is compatible with your laptop model and operating system.
Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive:
- After downloading the BIOS recovery tool, follow the instructions provided by HP to create a bootable USB drive.
- Typically, this involves formatting a USB drive and copying the BIOS recovery tool files onto it.
Perform the BIOS Recovery:
- Insert the USB drive into your laptop.
- Depending on the specific instructions for your laptop and BIOS recovery tool, you may need to press a specific key combination (like Esc + Power button) to initiate the BIOS recovery process.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to recover the BIOS. This process may take a few minutes.
Verify Successful Recovery:
- Once the recovery process is complete, your laptop should restart, and hopefully, the BIOS will be restored to its original state.
- Check if the laptop functions normally and if the BIOS version is correct.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks again for the assistance, but this unfortunately does not resolve my issue. When I enter my serial number into the "software and drivers" I see the following message:
"We were unable to retrieve the list of drivers for your product. Please select the desired OS and select 'Submit' to try again"
If i manually select Windows 11 (my correct OS) I see the following options on the next page. However, none of these options include downloading a new BIOS or BIOS repair tool;
