Hi everyone,
The issue with my shutter key is that it won't turn off. There's an orange light and no matter how much I try it won't go away. I tried every solution mentioned on here and else where and still nothing. What I did:
- Update BIOS
- Rollback BIOS
- Removed battery
- Ran battery to 0% and charged it
- Privacy settings
- Uninstall camera driver and re-install
- Physically inspected it
- Updated all drivers
- Pressed FN+shutter & just pressing the shutter
- I did do a keyboard diagnosis, it didn't function (might be the issue, but it was working before)
PLEASE does anyone have a solution for this stupid problem!?

Hi @AliAddi,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If the webcam shutter key light on your HP ENVY x360 laptop remains on (indicating the webcam is off) and does not toggle off despite your efforts, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Check Webcam Privacy Settings
Ensure that the webcam privacy settings are configured correctly:
- Open Settings on your laptop.
- Click Privacy.
- Select Camera from the left menu.
- Ensure that Camera access for this device and Allow apps to access your camera are set to On.
Verify Webcam Accessibility in Device Manager
Check that the webcam is recognized and enabled in the Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Imaging Devices category.
- Ensure your webcam is listed. If it’s not, right-click and select Scan for hardware changes.
- If the webcam appears, right-click it and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If it had been disabled, right-click and select Enable device.
Reset the Shutter Key in BIOS
Try resetting the webcam settings in the BIOS:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Restart the laptop and press the Esc key immediately before the HP logo appears to open the startup menu.
- Press F10 to enter BIOS setup.
- Navigate through the BIOS settings and look for any webcam options, and ensure the webcam is enabled.
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS. Restart your computer.
Update or Reinstall Webcam Driver
Ensure the webcam driver is up-to-date or reinstall it:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click your webcam under Imaging Devices.
- Select Uninstall device.
- After uninstalling, restart your computer.
- Windows should reinstall the driver automatically, or you can download and install the latest driver from the HP Drivers page.
Webcam status
Light on-the webcam is off.
Light off-the webcam is on.
I hope this helps.
