I was using my HP Envy x360 (m6-w101dx) laptop with only an SD card connected, the computer was operating completely normally. After a while, when I loaded a website the computer immediately hung and stopped responding to everything. I tried to press the power button once to put it to sleep, the screen flashed "Locking..." For a split second and went black with the power light solid on. I hard turned off the power and the computer will no longer post or boot. All it shows is the power button light, caps lock light and charging light flashing white in intervals of about 3 seconds. If plugged in the charge light alternates between orange and white at this same interval. I have suspected that the battery is failing in this laptop but I would think that it should still boot on AC power. I have tried a hard reset to no avail. The only questionable thing I did beforehand was I removed a USB storage device without ejecting (which is normal procedure since Windows does not give me the option to eject this drive). This drive does not contain critical Windows files and was not in use afaik at the time of removal.

Hi @shadamon5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue with your HP Envy x360 (m6-w101dx) laptop that is no longer posting or booting:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Touch: Disconnect the charger, remove any connected devices (including the SD card), and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to fully discharge the laptop.
  • Sight: Plug the laptop back into power (without connecting any peripherals) and try turning it on again. Observe if any lights blink or fans start spinning.

2. Reset BIOS by Removing the Battery

  • Touch: If the laptop has a removable battery, take it out and unplug the laptop from power.
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds to reset any electrical buildup. Then, reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  • Sight: Turn the laptop on and check if the screen lights up, indicating a POST attempt.

3. Check for Display or Power Issues

  • Sight: Ensure that the laptop’s display is working. Shine a flashlight on the screen to check for faint visuals, indicating a backlight issue.
  • Touch: Connect an external monitor via HDMI or any other port to see if the laptop is outputting video there, which would indicate a display problem.

4. Clear Static Buildup (Battery Connected)

  • Touch: With the battery connected, unplug the laptop from the charger. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
  • Plug the charger back in and try turning the laptop on. This can sometimes clear static buildup that prevents the laptop from booting.

5. Attempt BIOS Recovery

  • Touch + Sight: Press the Windows + B keys together while holding the power button for about 2-3 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the keys.
  • If successful, the laptop may beep, and you will see a BIOS recovery screen.
  • Follow the prompts to recover or reset the BIOS.
  • You may also refer to this document.

If none of these steps work, the issue could be more related to a hardware failure (e.g., motherboard, RAM, etc.), and you might need repair.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
