HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15m-ed0023dx

Hello,

The left hinge of my HP ENVY x360 just broke, the screen popped loose down in the corner.

My warranty ran out in 2021. I opened my computer to do some work and the hinge broke. I have not dropped or misused the computer in any way, rather taking really good care of it, considering I had to pay close to $1,000 for it. Based on the tons of complaints around this same problem on this forum (and elsewhere) it is obvious that the hinge design is really poor.

I am obviously very unhappy with this. A computer in this price range should not break after just more than a few years of normal use.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

I understand that this is a Hardware issue. Since the unit might need repair, I would request you to contact HP Phone support who can schedule a repair as per the warranty and the issue can be fixed.

For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.

What is not told to people is that the battery can cause the hinge to break because it can overheat and become swollen, pushing on the hinge.

Not really true. The laptop looks like this inside:

Battery = red star Hinge = blue arrowBattery = red star Hinge = blue arrow

The battery is not near the hinges. Batteries can swell and hinges can and do fail but the one does not cause the other. This is a new theory to me and I thought I had seen all of the theories.  Good luck with your  hinge issue.
