Hi
In the QuickSpecs is specified, that the HP EliteBook 1040 G4 has Thunderbolt, but has it Thunderbolt v3? I need to know this, because I want to connect an eGPU like MANTIZ MZ-02 (VENUS) to my notebook.
Regards,
Claudio

NO. Thunderbolt V3 uses USB-C form factor. It does not mean that USB-C is the same as Thunderbolt 3.
Unless the specifications page specifically states Thunderbolt 40Gbps, do not assume it has what you need. There are plenty of 2017/2018 laptops with Thunderbolt, but most of them are at a lower bandwidth.
If you see a lightning bolt icon printed next to the USB-C port, it supports Thunderbolt. However, it doesn't guarantee the speed you want. Currently, the 40Gbps thunderbolt appears limited to the premier models like the Spectre X360.

Hi
I've now combined my EliteBook 1040 G4 with an HP Omen Accelerator and a Nvidia GTX 1070. It works quite nice, so Thunderbolt 3 is supported. But only as long as I don't attach other devices to the Accelerator. In theory, it would support 1Gbps Ethernet, SATA 3 for a Disk, and other USB 3 devices. If I use some devices attached to the Accelerator, the whole system is somewhat instable. But with just the graphic card, it works fine and stable. I think this is more a limit of the Accelerator than the TB 3 Port on the EliteBook.

I'm trying to get my EliteBook 1040 G4 to detect Nvidia GTX 1080 in HP Omen Accelerator. The eGPU used to work with a Spectre x360. May I know the steps to follow how you got them to work?
Thanks!
