Hi,

I am requesting official clarification regarding motherboard compatibility between the following models:

– HP EliteBook 840 Aero G8

– HP EliteBook 840 G8

Is the system board from the EliteBook 840 Aero G8 physically and electrically compatible with the chassis of the EliteBook 840 G8, and vice versa? Can the motherboard of one model be installed into the other model’s chassis without mechanical modification?

Although the boards appear visually very similar in layout, the spare part (FRU) numbers differ. I would like to understand whether this difference reflects only configuration variations (CPU, region, TPM, etc.), or whether there are actual mechanical differences such as:

– Different mounting point locations

– Different cooling assembly design

– Port alignment differences

– BIOS or firmware restrictions

I would appreciate a clear confirmation whether these two models share the same motherboard form factor and chassis compatibility.

Thank you

Hello Csakale,

Thank you for your query,

For detailed and official information on motherboard compatibility between the HP EliteBook 840 Aero G8 and the HP EliteBook 840 G8, I recommend referencing HP's official documentation or contacting HP Support directly.

Considerations for Motherboard Compatibility:

  1. Physical Dimensions and Layout: While the motherboards in these models may appear similar, subtle differences in dimensions, mounting points, and port alignment could affect compatibility.

  2. Electrical Specifications: Even if physically similar, motherboards might differ in terms of power requirements and connectivity which can affect compatibility.

  3. BIOS and Firmware: Ensure that BIOS and firmware from one model are compatible with the other model's components and configuration.

  4. Component Compatibility: Consider compatibility of other integrated components such as battery, display connectors, and peripheral ports.

  5. Mechanical Modifications: Ideally, motherboards should be interchangeable without modification. However, unforeseen issues with alignment or port placement might occur.

Steps to Verify:

  • Consult HP Support: They can provide the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding part compatibility.

  • Service Manual: Reviewing the service manuals for each model might offer insights into motherboard interchangeability.

  • Spare Part Numbers: Verify spare part numbers for the motherboards from HP parts store or documentation to ensure they match or confirm cross-compatibility.
