Good evening to everyone,
I have an HP EliteBook 8440p, currently with 8gb ram 1333mhz and Intel (R) Core (TM) i5 CPU M 560 @ 2.67GHz.
Do you confirm that I can update it with an Intel (R) Core (TM) i5 CPU M 560 @ 2.67GHz and up to 8GB RAM at 1600MHz?
Thanks so much! 🙂

You're not a fool at all.
This stuff is very confusing.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02745864.pdf
If your notebook only has the onboard Intel HD graphics, I don't believe you can.
The i7-core processors can only work on the 8440p system boards that have the discrete Nvidia graphics.
If you look at the comparison specs between the processor you have now, and the 840QM, you will see that the 560M supports the onboard Intel graphics, while the 840QM does not. See the processor graphics specs.

So, if you were to install the 840QM in a notebook that only has the onboard intel graphics, if it worked at all, you would have no image on the display.
But if your notebook has the Nvidia graphics, yes, you should be able to install the 840QM, because the service manual only shows system boards listed with UMA (Intel only) or discrete (Nvidia) graphics.

Hi:
The fastest the memory runs in your notebook is 1066 Mhz.
It is not even running at 1333 MHz right now, so installing 1600 Mhz memory would not do a thing for you.
As a matter of fact, 1600 MHz memory will not work in the 8440p.
No one on this forum that I know of has gotten 1600 MHz memory to work in a 8440p.

Hello,
and thank you very much for your reply. 🙂
I do not want to be offensive, but I currently have 87gb ram at 1333mhz and the notebook works great.
Sure that the maximum is 1066 and that the 1600 do not go well?
For the cpu what can you tell me?
Thank you!

You're very welcome.
The maximum speed that the memory can run at is limited to the maximum FSB speed of the processor.
All Intel 1st generation core processors such as the i5-560M have a 1066 MHz FSB.
https://ark.intel.com/products/49653/Intel-Core-i5-560M-Processor-3M-Cache-2_66-GHz
So when you install PC3-1333 MHz memory, it downclocks to 1066 MHz. It does not run at 1333 Mhz.
And if you could install 1600 MHz memory and it worked, it too, would downclock to 1066 Mhz.

Too bad, although it is still a good machine for the office and little more, for a moment I had the illusion of being able to make a small upgrade ... 😞
Thank you for your patience and availability! 🙂

Anytime.
Glad to have been of assistance.
I'm sure it still works nice with 8 GB of memory and the i5-560.
I have the one model older Elitebook 6930P (looks exactly like yours), and it still works just fine for me.
I also put 8 GB of memory in mine but it is the older DDR2 (PC2-6400) memory.
Very expensive nowadays, but I installed it when DDR2 memory was cheap.
