Hello Im making this post in 2023 to anyone still holding on to there 8770w I would like to just share the possible upgrades for this specific EliteBook because they are a great buy for someone looking for a budget gaming laptop. My current configuration is a I7 3940xm and a Nvidia M4000M (Gtx 970m) paired with 16gb ram but plan to go 32gb sooner or later

the highest card this laptop supports would be a Gtx1080Tim the Highest Cpu would be the i7 3940xm. you do not need the Dream Color Variet for these upgrades but only specifc bios version of the cards will work. For example I Bought 2 M4000M's one was from a hp Z-book and the other from a msi machine the Hp Z-book card did not work at all but the msi one did. so BE CAREFUL buying Gpu's what machine they come from matters.. as far as ram 32gb is the highest the mother-board will recognize 64 may be possible but i would not recommend as the $$$ would not be worth it even if it did work. These laptops are still amazing after all these years and even though mine doesn't get much use its still a blast to play on especially after my personal upgrades 🙂

Today I successfully upgraded WiFi in my 8770w to 802.11ax with Intel AX210 card. During tests I got about 600Mbps throughput and 1200Mbps connection. 

 

Also I can confirm Miracast. It's working with Samsung Smart TV. Just perfect!

HP Recommended

I have K5100M video card. It's working. There is kind of driver issues. I'm going to upgrade to P5200 or other. I'm looking forward to get more information.
