Hello, can my device (HP EliteBook Folio G1 Notebook PC X1U99UP) be upgraded with a PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD?

Yes.

The specification supported is M.2 SS 2280 Solid State Drives up to 2 TB storage capacity.

That is SATA-3 TLC M.2 or PCIe NVMe Gen 3 or 4  MLC (memory type) single sided

That was what I posted in my last reply.

 

The PCIE NVMe  M.2 SSD does need to be an MLC type, single sided and  2280 dimension factor.

 

Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe and Samsung 860 Pro are MLC

Samsung Pro SSDs are made with MLC NAND memory

If you are wanting to know if the Gen 4 NVMe SSD will run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds in your notebook, the answer is no. 

 

Your notebook's NVMe SSD slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

 

This table shows the maximum transfer speeds you can get from the various PCIe slot generations.
