Model HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2
Product # 2GC24US#ABA
OS Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit Version: 17763.503
My HP support assistant says there is a new wlan driver 20.90.0.7, but when I try to install it, it says successful and thenshows it is the old driver version 20.70.7.1. When I force an update through device manager, it says it is up to date. Intel site says the latest driver for the wlan (AC 8265) is 20.70.7.1.
What gives?

Hi:
You can't always rely on the HPSA.
According to Intel, you do have the latest driver installed... 20.70.7.1.
See the release notes...
https://downloadmirror.intel.com/28687/eng/ReleaseNotes_WiFi_21.0.0.pdf
Now what you could do is to try manually installing the IT admin version of the driver as follows...
This is how I always update my Intel wifi adapter drivers...
Download the W10 x64 zip file. 1st one on the top left.
Unzip the file to its folder.
Go to the device manager, click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category.
Click on the Intel 8265 wifi adapter.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the unzipped wifi driver folder.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and if there is a newer driver available, it will install.
