I would like to upgrade to a 2 TB SSD in my EliteBook x360 1040 g5 (model 9WA54ES#ABD). Can I replace the original SSD (should be a Western Digital PC SN520 NVMe SSD 512GB, M.2 2280 (SDAPNUW-512G)) with a powerful Western Digital WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD 2TB, M.2 (WDS200T2X0E-00BCA0)? I assume that my motherboard does not support PCIe 4.0 and so its potential will not be fully used. But will I experience overheating problems with it?
Is it better to use a PCIe 3.0 instead - e.g. Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB, M.2 (MZ-V7S2T0BW)?
Are there other better options?
Thanks in advance,
lesica

Hi:
I would be concerned with the Western Digital WD_BLACK SN850X running hot, and yes, your notebook's M.2 slot is only PCIe Gen 3.
How about the WD Blue SN570 2 TB?
I think that would be a safe bet and still provide excellent performance and the extra storage you want.
