Product: HP Elitebook 820 G3
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to purchase a portable monitor for use with my HP Elitebook, but most of them have USB C connectors. I understand that the connector needs to support Thunderbolt 3 USB C. Can the Elitebook 820 G3 make use of the Thunderbolt 3 compatible devices? I know that the ports on the PC appear to be USB type A female ports.

Does anyone have experience with a portable monitor and this PC?

The USB-C port on your machine it not a Thunderbolt port by designed. But it can do

 

  820 G3.png

 

with a right adapter (id required) you can connect to an external monitor using Display port, VGA or HDMI. Not USB-C to USB-C.
