Elitebook 730 G7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a new Elitebook G7, that I connect to either a Thunderbolt G2 (which came with the laptop) or USB-C G5 dock. (purchased seperately)

Computer will periodically either freeze up (with audible fanspin) and then shut down because it gets too hot (it gives you a prompt about this on startup) or Bluescreen. Occasionally when i'm lucky just the dock connected devices stop working and I can just re-plug.

When it BSOD's crashdump reliably refences hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe as culprits.

Summary of things i've noticed/concluded:

- This problem happens with either the Thunderbolt G2 or USB-C G5 dock that was purchased seperately. So i don't think it's the dock unless i've tried with two defective docks.

- This problem happens when almost nothing is connected to the dock. (just power, network and displayport)

- Laptop seems stable without dock so the laptop itself seems fine.

- Have updated all the drivers and firmware using mainly HP's support assistant, and firmware tools download from the respective dock's support page.

- Have tried manually installing the drivers from HP support page for my laptop.

- Tested both USB-C ports on the laptop.

- CPU temperatures idle just under or around 50 degrees,

This is the 3rd instance of BSODs on the 8x0 G7 line I've heard of in the last week.

Generally speaking, make sure your thunderbolt driver and BIOS are up to date. If you do that and it's still not cooperating try disabling Connected Standby temporarily to see if it improves things.
