Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended

I’ve been experiencing a persistent charging issue for the past few months with my HP laptop (about 6 years old). Whenever I plug it in, charging doesn’t start right away-it usually takes around 30-40 minutes, regardless of the battery percentage. The battery charges for a few seconds, then stops, and this cycle keeps repeating until eventually continuous charging begins.

Has anyone faced a similar issue? Are there any effective solutions or troubleshooting steps I can try?

Hello.

This is about 9-year-old model, so even if you may have bought it 6 years ago, it was manufactured much earlier along with the battery.

While it is likely the battery has already been severely degraded, the charger may also be the culprit if it has problem providing the power for the laptop. Easiest way to rule out the power supply is to try with another similar HP power supply that provides at least as much power as your own PSU.

If you don't have another power supply to test with, I recommend visiting your local (HP) laptop repair shop to test it. The HP 4.5mm power supply barrel connector was used from G3 to G8 (roughly) and they probably have several to test with.

One other thing you can try yourself is the HP Power Reset procedure. At least it won't do any harm.
