HP Elitebook 8560p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone

I have an HP Elitebook 8560p. Its original battery is no longer detected by the laptop so I am using it with the AC adapter which I must say is a Dell one (I got it with this laptop). The AC adapter works it is a 65W 19.5v power supply from Dell. I do not know where the original is because I got this second hand.

So I decided to purchase a replacement battery which came in yesterday. I plugged the battery in and the laptop recognized it. Note that it is not a genuine HP battery but it is compatible with my laptop model otherwise it would not have worked. It had around 65% charge and the manual stated that I must drain it to 8% then charge it to full for the first time. I did wait for it to go 8% however when I tried to plug the AC adapter to charge the battery, it won't work. The battery eventually drained out and the laptop turned off or hibernate I guess. I read the manual again and saw that I should wait around 10 to 40 minutes for the battery to charge from 0% to 1% so I left it overnight plugged. No indication that the battery is charging because the light that has a lightning icon on top of it does not blink or light up. Today I woke up and found that nothing changed, no charge at all. When I power up the laptop, the charge light indicator will blink 10 times and then nothing.

Is it my AC adapter or is the battery I purchased defective? Right now, my original battery is plugged in and I am using the AC as a power source. If I plug the new battery and AC the laptop won't turn on. It's as if the laptop ignores the AC and reads only the battery.

Please help. I already tried hard resetting the laptop, uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft AC adapter and battery drivers., reseating the new battery, but nothing works. My AC adapter by the way has 3 wires and a pin inside which I think should be the sense pin.

Thanks!
