- HP Elitebook 8760W overheating when watching videos

Hi,
In the past few weeks my HP Elitebook 8760W has been shutting down through overheating when I watch videos. This happens irrespective whether these are on DVD or hdd, after about 10 minutes the laptop shuts down unless I pause the video for a few minutes to allow it to cool down.
SpeedFan shows that the culprits are GPU and T5 temperatures. I suspect it is the graphics card temperatures (but I'm not certain) and if I allow either to reach 110 degC it shuts down the laptop. T5 tends to be about 1-2 deg C higher so that reaches the overheat trigger first but not always. T1 and Core 0 temps are also elevated but rarely rise above 80 deg C.
I've thoroughly cleaned the fan blades and inlet filters but they weren't particularly dirty in the first place so this had marginal effect, perhaps adding a minute or so to the temperature rise reaching 110 degC.
The workstation is about 6 years old and has dutifully played many hundreds of videos since new so this is a new issue which is starting to drive me crazy. SpeeedFan monitors the available temperatures but for this workstation it does not allow control of the fan speed so I'm stuck with what to try next.
Any ideas and pointers would be greatly appreciated.
George

Install:
NVIDIA Video Driver and Control Panel:
Reboot:
You may want to think about replacing the GPU heatsink assembly???
I have had some that the GAS had leaked from the copper tubes.

Hi Reo,
Went to download the NVIDIA video driver & control panel from the link you sent but checking the system requirements shows Win10 isn't listed. Is there a Win10 version available elsewhere or will this version also work with Win10 please?
Cheers.

If you noticed there are no HP W10 drivers for your model!!!
You are using a combination of W7, W8 and W8.1 drivers.
So please do try and install.

Hi Reo,
When attempting to install I get this message during the install's system requirements check;
I'm confused by this message in that I can't work out which is the most recent driver, the one currently installed on my laptop or the Win8 one about to be installed? Device manager shows that the one currently installed (21.21.13.7699) is the latest and it is dated 26 Feb 2017.
Please can you clarify and point me to what next?
Cheers.

Hi Reo,
Thanks for the new link, that seems to have been a success, at least as far as the driver and control panel installation is concerned 🙂
Is there something to configure in the control panel or was the install to ensure the latest graphics drivers are installed? I don't see anything in the control panel for monitoring of temperatures or controling fan speed.
Cheers.

Hi Reo,
Is there anything in the NVIDIA Control Panel I should be setting/configuring for the overheating? I can't see anything obvious but otherwise not sure what the purpose of its installation was?
Cheers.
