Common problems for Battery

Read above replies, try Task Manager or similar tools to see what is consuming high CPU resource.

 

If it is Avast, try uninstalling to see if it helps with fan noise. You can always reinstall Avast.

Thanks, I've tried all that and it hasn't made any difference.  The fan noise comes on before I log in to the system and disappears after I've done so then appears again at random.   There doesn't seem to be much using CPU though I'm not savvie enough to know how much is a lot.  I'd prefer not to have to send it back under warranty and have all the palaver that would entail but, on the other hand, obviously can't mess around with the innards without invalidating the guarantee so feel a bit stuck.

Thanks for that suggestion which I have followed though the fan seems to have been inexplicably a bit less frequently noisy recently.  I'll see if this has any further effect and feed back if it does.
