@Noraud, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP Envy 15 Notebook PC is having trouble reading an SD card, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check Physical Connection and Card Condition
- Verify Physical Connection: Ensure that the SD card is properly inserted into the card reader slot. It should fit snugly without being forced.
- Examine the SD Card: Check if the SD card is damaged or dirty. Clean the metal contacts with a soft, dry cloth.
Update Driver or Software
- Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager, and under "Disk Drives" or "SD Host Adapters," ensure your SD card reader appears without error;
- Update SD Card Driver: Right-click on the card reader in Device Manager and select "Update Driver" to search for the latest drivers.
Try Different SD Card
- Test Another Card: Use a different SD card to determine if the issue is with the card itself or the card reader.
Check System Settings
- File Explorer: Open File Explorer to see whether the SD card is listed as a removable drive.
- Disk Management: Check Disk Management to see if the card appears. If visible, you may need to assign a drive letter.
Restart the Device
- Restart Your Notebook: Sometimes simply restarting your device will resolve temporary software glitches.
Perform Troubleshoot
- Windows Troubleshooter: Use the Windows troubleshooting tool by searching "Troubleshoot" in the search bar and running hardware and devices trouble-shooting.
I hope this helps.

Hi, thank for your information.
I used a 2GB SD card. Someone told me that it's probably because the card is too "Small" that th PC can't read. I'll try with a bigger card to check, if not I will follow your instructions.
