HP Envy x360 m Convertible Model15m-cp0011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased two HP Envy 15 laptops - a pretty big purchase - 2 years ago. Now, both laptops are bulging from underneath the trackpad and keyboard. HP issued a recall on a large amount of laptops, and has expanded the number of laptops they are accepting for the recall, but unfortunately, they have not included my specific model.

Is there anything I can do, besides purchasing new laptops, that can help with my issue? I have already called HP support regarding the recall and filed a report with the CSPC. So far, the answer has been stop using the computer and pay an HP Service Provider to look at the laptop and determine whether it is worth repairing. The diagnostic alone (no repairs) costs more than a cheap laptop.

Please tell me there is something that can be done. I know that this is a big issue with people who have the same laptop. Even the support agent said that it's a big issue. I recorded the phone call, among many others:

Recall support agent: "Do you happen to leave the power cord plugged into the laptop all of the time?"

Me: "Sometimes I leave it plugged in, but, I mean, it's a laptop."

Recall support agent: "because that's a very common reason why the batteries swell up."

Is that it? Is there any other solution than replacing the internal battery every year?

Thank you,

Tyler

My intention is to tread lightly here - you have already filed complaints.

Our Community does not (NOT) intervene between customers and any action outside the Community.  We are a volunteer workforce.

My opinion is that this type of battery is used in many devices manufactured by different companies - notebooks and phones, for example, use this type of battery.  It is the battery technology that fails, not the companies that are forced to use available battery technology.   Car battery technology is not great, either.  We live in primitive times in some ways.

My opinion is that computer batteries tend to last about as long as the warranty - sometimes longer, and occasionally not that long.

When the battery fails, or becomes unusable for any reason, it must be replaced.

My opinion is that batteries, even those inside the notebook case, are generally not difficult to replace.  The Service Guide for the particular notebook series includes the part number (for the battery) and the replacement procedure.  HP provides videos (and more of these are all over YouTube) to assist with replacing the battery.

What I say has absolutely no bearing on any case you have with, against, or otherwise involving HP or any other company.

My opinion is that you should simply replace the batteries as needed and move on.

My opinion is not something about which you need be concerned.

You are the KING of solutions. I was willing to try anything. You seriously need a Patreon.

For anybody who has the same problem, you literally just look up your computer's serial number on HP's parts website (https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx), find the part number for your battery, and purchase a new battery from your preferred supplier. @Dragon-Fur posted the steps above. There is hope.

Back from the brink.

You are welcome.

I am sorry this happened to two computers at the same time, of course.

It makes it feel personal.

Stay Safe.
