Hello.
I recently bought the new Ryzen 7 15 in model from Best Buy.
There are some issues that I am having, but I can't find much information about other people having the same issues. I'm not sure if it is a defective model, or it's just bugs.
- The laptop dies overnight with the lid closed and the charger unplugged. I plan on taking this laptop to college so when it is not in use, the lid will be closed. I don't know what would cause the battery to drain overnight in sleep mode.
- Sometimes when turning on the , it will say that there is no hard drive installed. When I restart it, everything works.
- The touch quits working sometimes, requiring a restart.
Other than that, everything else is great. The display is clear and crisp (for 1080p), boot times are under 30 seconds, keyboard is acceptable, touchpad is responsive, and speakers are decent.
I'm just wondering if the issues I'm having are common. I can't find many reviews on this laptop.

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I see from your post that you are having issues related to HP Envy notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
Splendid effort and fabulous description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?
Have you tried charging your laptop using a different adapter or battery?
Does your laptop shutdown when you unplug the charger from your PC?
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manager?
Have you tried to update the Bios?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.
Next thing, please try these few steps to enhance battery life.
- Make sure that the Windows 10 power plan is set to Balanced Performance to conserve battery power
- Consider which programs you are running; some programs, like graphics-intensive games, will deplete the battery faster
- .Reduce the convertible’s screen brightness to conserve battery power
- Remove peripherals like external hard drives from the convertible while they are not is use

Resetting the ACPI battery driver may take care of this. There will be a hard reset mixed in as well, so the two methods combined typically help a lot with battery issues.
-
1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
-
2. Expand batteries.
-
3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
-
4. Shut down the computer.
-
5. Disconnect the charger.
-
6. Remove the battery.
-
7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
-
8. Insert the battery only.
-
9. Attempt to turn the battery on.
-
If this had an impact, it should behave differently.
-
If not, Press the power button and then tap the F2 key to invoke the startup menu.
-
Choose and click on the F10 key to invoke the BIOS.
-
Use the System Configuration tab. Disable USB Charging and press the F10 key to save the changes and boot into Windows.
Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue. The first document has the most relevant troubleshooting if your battery appears to be not charging.
I would suggest please update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link: http://hp.com/drivers Select the country and language. Enter the product# and follow the on-screen instructions.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Next thing, regarding the touch quits working, requires restarts, In this let's try these steps here:
First, restart the computer and tap on F10 during restart, once on BIOS screen, move the mouse cursor around to check if it works normally,
If it does, it would confirm a software issue and you follow the below steps if it doesn't work on its a hardware failure and I would suggest a touchpad replacement.
I recommend you to uninstall any generic synaptic drivers showing up for the touchpad (if available) under hidden devices from the device manager:
-
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
-
At a command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
-
Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
start devmgmt.msc
-
Troubleshoot the devices and drivers in Device Manager.
NOTE: Click Show hidden devices on the View menu in Device Manager before you can see devices that are not connected to the computer. -
When you finish troubleshooting, close Device Manager.
-
Type exit at the command prompt.
Note that when you close the command prompt window, Window clears the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 variable that you set in step 2 and prevents ghosted devices from being displayed when you click Show hidden devices.
And then download a new version of the synaptic drivers using this link: Click here

I'm back.
I've determined that the battery overnight drain is from the hard drive error. I caught the laptop with the fans going full blast with the error message saying there is no hard drive installed. I've updated the bios and wiped the hard drive and installed Windows 10 fresh. I got this error message the first time I booted the laptop.

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.
As you have performed the steps suggested and nothing has helped to resolve this issue, more over you are getting no hard drive installed error message.
In this scenario, I would suggest you run an extensive system test as well as an extensive hard drive test from F2. Please capture the failure ID for further assistance.
Please get back to us with the results for further assistance.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
