Hello, my laptop within the last month or so has developed an issue that will not allow it to charge with the lid open. When I plugged in the brand new HP charger that I just bought, it will register on the battery icon "plugged in/not charging" then that will go away after about 5 seconds. I have been researching this issue for weeks now and have tried all the fixes sugested by others and HP experts but nothing has changed. I unistalled the ACPI, restarted, pulled the battery and held down the power button, etc... This all leads me to believe that there might be a short of some kind, as it charges just fine with the lid closed. Can someone please help me! I am a college student and rely heavily on my laptop. Thank you.

Hello @CBanter93,

Try testing the battery and AC adapter in the UEFI Diagnostics. By the way, what is the new AC adapter wattage rated as?

  1. Repeatedly press Esc upon startup
  2. Select F2 (System Diagnostics)
  3. Select the desired language
  4. Navigate to component tests
  5. Select Battery and AC adapter

Note that the above steps may vary depending on the configuration and some tests may not be available.

Just did the test and the battery passed. There was no test for the ac adapter. It said something about the UEFI not being installed properly or something of the sort and to reinstall the "softpaq". The AC adapter is product #740015-002  19.5v 2.31A 45W. I bought this adapter and it was advertized as being a 90W, which is what I believe it needs.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
