Greetings!
I'm trying to get a definitive answer on how much RAM my HP Envy 16-h1015TX laptop can actually support. When I bought it, it came with 16GB of DDR5-4800 RAM installed.
As a software developer, I often run heavy workloads (Docker, VMs, IDEs, etc.), so I’m considering an upgrade to 32GB or even 64GB, if possible.
I’ve already:
Replaced the OS with Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat) via a bootable flash drive.
- Run sudo dmidecode -t 16, which oddly reports a maximum capacity of 16GB — something I find suspicious.
- Checked HP’s official documentation, which states a max of 32GB (2 x 16GB DDR5).
- Seen Crucial's page saying that it can support up to 64GB .
- Reviewed this page about the BIOS possibly showing outdated or inaccurate information.
So - can this model really support 64GB, or is 32GB the actual limit? I’d love to hear from anyone who has tested this firsthand. Thanks in advance!
