HP Envy 17.3" FHD Touchscreen Laptop Running Windows 11 Pro Keyboard suddenly stops working. I know it is not debris under the keys. Keyboard works fine then suddenly no keys work. USB remote keyboard and on screen keyboard work fine when this happens. Updated driver no but no help. Rebooting always restores keyboard function for at least 5 minutes or so or up to a few hours before it happens.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hi @Frisbeeman,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a recurring keyboard issue that seems to resolve temporarily after a reboot but then stops working again after some time. Here are some steps you can try to fix this issue with your HP Envy 17.3" laptop running Windows 11 Pro.
Check Power Settings
Sometimes, power settings can cause peripherals like the keyboard to stop working.
- Go to Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards and right-click on your laptop's keyboard device.
- Select Properties and then the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
- Click OK and check if this resolves the issue.
Update or Roll Back Keyboard Driver
You mentioned that you updated the driver, but it might be worth trying to roll back to a previous version if the issue began after a driver update.
- In Device Manager, expand Keyboards and right-click your keyboard device.
- Click on Properties, then the Driver tab.
- Click Roll Back Driver (if available) or choose Uninstall Device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the default driver.
Perform a System Scan
Corrupted system files can cause peripheral issues. Running a system scan might help fix this.
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator (right-click and choose Run as Administrator).
- Type the following command and press Enter:
sfc /scannow
- Let the scan complete and follow any instructions provided to repair corrupted files.
Update Windows and Firmware
Ensure that your Windows 11 and any firmware updates for your laptop are fully up-to-date. Outdated system firmware or drivers can cause hardware issues.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates and install any available updates.
- Check HP's support website for any firmware or BIOS updates specific to your laptop model.
Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can sometimes cause issues with peripherals.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
- Click Save changes and restart your laptop.

Test in Safe Mode
Boot into Safe Mode to check if the issue persists. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and can help determine if third-party software is causing the issue.
- Press Shift + Restart from the Start menu to access the Advanced Startup Options.
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Once the laptop restarts, select Safe Mode.
- Test the keyboard in Safe Mode to see if it works without issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
