Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy 17 Notebook PC Laptop Keyboard Backlight is not automatically coming on at computer startup.

This started happening recently, probably due to a Windows Update, but I can't be sure. I'm running the most current version of Windows 10. I keep it up-to-date by checking for updates.

If I manually press the F5 function key it comes on, just not automatically at boot up.

@Chris-Malone, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Follow the steps below to isolate and resolve the issue-

Try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer. Click here to know more about HPSA.

If the issue persists after the driver updates, boot the computer to BIOS by tapping F10 repeatedly on startup and restore the BIOS/System utility settings to defaults. Save and Exit BIOS

If the issue persists, uninstall the keyboard driver from Device manager, restart your computer and check.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
