Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have an HP Envy 17-da0780ng laptop.
Can I install a 4TB SSD? If so, which SSD is recommended?
Will the warranty remain valid?
Thanks.

Your current 2 TB drive is an M.2 NVMe gen4x4 SSD.

A Samsung 990 Pro should work.

If you want to upgrade the SSD yourself, read chapter 5 (page 29) of the service manual.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP Envy 17.3 inch Laptop PCModel numbers: 17-da0xxx

The note there reads:

"IMPORTANT: Only an authorized service provider should access the components described in this
chapter. Accessing these parts can damage the computer or void the warranty."

But what happens if you still do an upgrade without damaging anything? Your warranty would stay valid? I would think so, but I'm just a forum volunteer. You may contact HP customer service for clarification of your warranty.

If you still want to do an upgrade, read chapter 4 and pages 32-34 for SSD replacement procedures.

@EnvyMicha,

Generally, M.2 NVMe SSDs have no capacity limit. You can upgrade the SSD to max 4 TB.

HP parts list for your model indicates your notebook has a Samsung 2 TB gen 4x4 NVMe SSD.

This is a 4 TB Samsung NVMe SSD.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, it has a 2TB SSD installed, but unfortunately I don't know the type.
I've also been interested in the Samsung 990 Pro.

Will the warranty still apply?
