Provost,

I have no issue with the help that forum members offer. They are and have been a help to me and others. My issue is the poor HP support and especially their lack of clear and simple instructions. That said is there a trick to installing the M.2? IS there a way to tell if the M.2 socket has been deactivated?  Again. I thank all the forum members for the help they offer to us. I am just frustrated.

I absolutely would be, too. On the M.2 slot, we have not had many compatibility issues on the SATA side. TLC, MLC, all seem to work fine. PCIe/NVME not so much. So I would say if you have tried 2 different SATA M.2 modules in the slot and neither is seen by the BIOS or by Windows, then I am sorry to report it seems you have one of the ones where the M.2 is not activated. Did you buy any chance buy this at Costco, Sam's Club or Wal-Mart? The models sold there seem to be more prone to this issue although not exclusively. When this first popped up about 18-24 months ago we asked for a list from HP of those specific model numbers/SKUs with disabled M.2 ports and got a big shoulder shrug. They have not even acknowledged it to be true, but you are not the first by a long shot to report it. It also seems common in those models where the M.2 port is right next to the hard drive to the left toward the outside of the case.

Lessons learned, HP continues its decline in features and support of computer devices.  I returned the unit and went with another manufacturer that allows, documents and supports upgrades and continue to share the negative experience with  others to eliminate HP from consideration.

Thank you for responding,

This is the Riddle_Decipher, again!

Didn't my suggestions and links, help?

If not, please tell me exactly what you need, so that I may provide more details, as everything I've mentioned so far, should answer your question precisely, unless I haven't, in which case, do tell.

Keep me posted,

And have a good day.

They helped but did not work. I did notice that when i install the M.2 unlike in other computers it sits flat at installation. There is no 45 degree angle, and no need to hold down to insert screw. When i unplug the original hardrive the system bios retains the name of the unplugged hardrive. When using the M.2 alone my recovery disk will not work. It does not recognize a hardrive.

I will replace my original hardrivee with an SSD. I purchased my unit from Costco!

@Dennis32

Thank you for replying,

If the store has made changes to the way the product works, you may want to contact Costco to resolve the issue,

However, if the slot is available and yet doesn't work, and Costco hasn't made any changes as such, I recommend you refer to my private message for further instructions:

That said, please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, using the blue envelope:

I hope your day gets better, good luck.

Just sayin' Costco can't change anything. They sell HP laptops in boxes sealed at the factory. If anything Costco sells enough volume HP can order motherboards for Costco models with features omitted. Seems to also happen a lot with Wal-Mart models.
