I saw the following post and have a similar question

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-17t-3000-CTO-mssd-Msata...

300-GB solid-state drive 665930-001
256-GB solid-state drive 689223-001

I have an 80GB SSD which I believe is an MSATA.  There are two upgrades listed on the HP site but prices are prohibitive.  How to I find a compatible drive from a third party?

Please see the HP ENVY 17 - Maintenance and Service Guide for all the various hard drive / SSD / mSata drive configurations that were available on these models. Almost any vendors drive will work in your computer and HP sources these parts from many manufacturers.

Hard drive (does not include hard drive bracket, cables, or screws):
1-TB, 5400-rpm, 12.7-mm 638974-001
750-GB, 7200-rpm, 9.5-mm 633252-001
750-GB, 7200-rpm, 9.5-mm hybrid 684506-001
500-GB, 7200-rpm, 9.5-mm 634925-001
320-GB, 7200-rpm, 9.5-mm 641672-001

Solid-state drive (does not include bracket, cable, or screws):
300-GB solid-state drive 665930-001
256-GB solid-state drive 689223-001
160-GB solid-state drive 665929-001

mSATA drive:
128-GB mSATA drive 665931-001
80-GB mSATA drive 665932-001

An mSata drive and SSD are not the same. SSD is in the same form factor as a hard drive. An SSD is going to be less expensive then an mSata drive. Your choice will depend on what your are try to do with your computer.

Thank you for replying so quickly.  Is there a size limitation on the msata drive that can be installed?  for example, I see 120, 250 and 500 GB msata drives listed.

Thanks
