I currently have an HP Envy 17t with a 512GB TLC SATA-3 M.2 SSD, part # T8B39AV, and it is almost full.
I want to install at lease a 1TB or a 2TB SSD. I have not opened up the laptop yet but from what I have found it has a M & B slot.
QUESTIONS
1. Do I have to stay with the SATA or can I install a NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD?
2. Do I have to upgrade drivers and or BIOS if I install the NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD?
3. Point me in the correct direction to learn how to properly clone my current SATA drive to the new drive.
Thanks

Unfortunately, your laptop comes from a generation that even also has support for an older type of M.2 SSD, named (new generation form factor)NGFF. NGFF was the very first form factor for SSD products.
SATA-3 M.2 , TLC is the best you will be able to use.
You will not need to install drivers. Windows will provide them on its own.
Cloning: I use a paid version of EaseUS Partition Master and USB external M.3 enclosure (SATA type).
