I am using a HP Envy 17t-s000, product ID P4B19AV, S/N [edited].
The laptop currently has BIOS version 77 on it, and on the downloads page for the HP Envy 17t-s000 there is a BIOS upgrade version 88.
I have downloaded it, and been completely unsucessful in trying to install it. Every time my laptop reboots it still retains BIOS version 77.
After much messing around, I have concluded that the BIOS files included in the download aren't covering my computer's board ID. BIOS reports my board ID as 816E, and the files contained in that download are 0A080, 080A9, and 0816F.
What can I do about this?

Try upgrading to an older BIOS version first. Let's use the F.82 download from the Revision History tab on the BIOS link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp76501-77000/sp76908.exe
Also, what I have found to help is to shut down the notebook completely, remove the power cord and battery for a minute, then reinsert and try running the BIOS update again.

Unfortunately, this didn't help.
I downloaded the oldest version available (F.82) and after doing all that the same thing happened. I ran the update program and it completed without any errors then it rebooted the computer. After rebooting, the laptop still has BIOS version F.77
Looking at the files in version F.82 it seems like it offers the same firmware files as the F.88 version: 080A0, 080A9, and 0816F. These files seem like they correspond to Board IDs, and if that's the case my Board ID 0816E seems to be unsupported for some reason.
Here's a picture of my laptop's ID sticker, and a picture of the BIOS screen to show that info:

I reset the BIOS settings to default and attempted to update agian, with the same result.
The reason I want to update is because the recent updates include security improvements and updates for new builds of Windows. One of the updates mentions an ambiguous fix for the W A D keys when gaming for extended periods. Who knows what was fixed between version 78-81 that aren't even available anymore.
I'm not experiencing any specific issues right now, but I want to avoid them.
I got this laptop a few weeks ago from someone who never did more with it than turn it on, check e-mail, and turn it back off. I want to get everything up-to-date and avoid problems before I have them.

I'm still having this problem and have had no luck solving it.
With version 90 out earlier this month which is described as having security updates, I assume it contains fixes for Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. As such I would really like to get this figured out so that I can get this update installed.
As with the previous updates, the .bin files in the package are 080A0F, 080A9F, and 0816F.
My laptop's board ID is 816E ... which leads me to believe that maybe a file is accidentally being left out of the update package?
At any rate, the same behavior as my original post is occurring. I run the update executable, select update, the program completes with no errors and prompts me to reboot. After rebooting, my laptop is still on BIOS F.77
