I purchased hp envy 360 15.6, 12gen 1tb ssd 16gb RAM From a retail store10 hours ago. I set up the Windows on battery mode with battery drop from 43% to 23% few minutesafterinstallation. What a surprise, then I plugged it to AC outlet and short it down. On full charge I boot the PC, connected it to WiFi for update and also increased the screen back-light to maximum and set a timer.  In 24 minutes 44seconds the battery dropped 20%. I shut it down for 50 minutes the battery dropped 4%.

This laptop is not upto 10 hours from purchase. Pls what do I do? I did a battery test/calibration, the battery health passed successfully.

Pls can someone assist me to resolve this issue. HP promised 10hours to 15hours battery depending on the task it undergoes but lol and behold battery drainage even when shutdown.

Can my battery be changed or total pc replacement in this condition?  I was the one who broke the seal meaning it's brand new.

Thanks for anticipating solution/reply...

Hi @Chimax,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing fast battery drain on your HP Envy 360 laptop, whether it's in active or off mode, can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

1. Check for Background Processes:

  • When your laptop is in active mode, check for any background processes or applications that might be consuming excessive power. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) on Windows or Activity Monitor on macOS to see which processes are using the most CPU and memory. You can then close unnecessary programs to conserve battery.

2. Update Drivers and Software:

  • Ensure that your operating system, drivers, and software are up-to-date. Outdated software or drivers can sometimes cause power management issues. Check HP's website for driver updates specific to your laptop model.

3. Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to your laptop's power settings and make sure it's set to a power plan that optimizes battery life. You can usually find these settings in the Control Panel on Windows or System Preferences on macOS. Select a power plan like "Power Saver" on Windows or "Battery" on macOS.

4. Disable Unnecessary Hardware:

  • Turn off or disconnect any hardware devices (e.g., external hard drives, USB devices) that you aren't using. These devices can drain power even when the laptop is in standby mode.

5. Reduce Screen Brightness:

  • Lowering the screen brightness can significantly extend battery life. You can adjust the brightness in your laptop's display settings.

6. Check for Battery-Draining Applications:

  • Some applications, especially those that use background services or are poorly optimized, can drain your battery quickly. Monitor which applications are running and consider uninstalling or disabling those that are not necessary.

7. Battery Calibration:

  • Sometimes, recalibrating your laptop's battery can help. To do this, allow your laptop to completely discharge until it shuts down, then charge it back to 100%. Repeat this process a couple of times.

8. Check for Malware:

  • Malware or viruses can consume CPU resources and drain your battery. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to make sure your laptop is clean.

9. BIOS Update:

  • Occasionally, a BIOS update from HP can improve power management and battery life. Check HP's website for BIOS updates for your specific laptop model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
