I've been experiencing poor quality since I bought this laptop. It was advertised as an HD camera but when you go into the camera setting is maxes out at 0.9mp and 720p for the video. Wow! No wonder why the images are grainy and distorted. I'm amazed as my 7-year-old Dell laptop has better quality and my wife's cheaper but newer HP (Pavilion Plus, 3.7mp camera and 1080HP video) has better quality than mine. When you compare this camera to the competition is by far the worst-performing camera. I'm assuming HP updated to a newer camera for all 2023/2024 models. I purchased mine in Aug 2021. I'm disappointed that HP would even consider using such a cheap camera on their mid-tier Envy series. I can't use it for Zoom or Teams as the quality is so poor. Why? Wish I had looked at the setting sooner and would never purchased it.

Hi @Mtntop,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration with the camera quality on your HP Envy x360 with an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, especially given your expectations for a device marketed with HD capabilities. It's disappointing to hear that the reality doesn't match the advertising, especially in comparison to other devices in your household.
The issue you're experiencing with the 720p and 0.9MP camera specifications falls below what many users would expect from a modern laptop, especially from a mid-tier series like the HP Envy. High-quality video calls have become a staple of both professional and personal communication, making a capable webcam an essential feature for many users.
The discrepancy in webcam quality among different models and brands, as you've noticed with the comparison to your wife's HP Pavilion Plus, likely stems from different product strategies and cost considerations during the design phase.
Given the importance of video call quality in today's environment, it's possible that HP has updated their camera hardware in newer models to meet consumer expectations, as you mentioned. However, for your current situation, here are a few suggestions that might help improve your experience, even if they can't completely overcome the hardware limitations:
External Webcam: Consider purchasing a high-quality external webcam. There are many options available that can provide 1080p or higher resolutions, significantly improving your video call quality.
Lighting: Improve the lighting in your room. Good lighting can make a substantial difference in camera performance, especially with lower-quality webcams.
Software Enhancements: Look for software solutions that can enhance video quality. Some applications offer post-processing effects that can reduce graininess and improve image clarity.
Check for Updates: Ensure your camera drivers and BIOS are up to date. Sometimes, performance improvements and bug fixes are delivered through software updates.
While these suggestions won't change the hardware limitations of your current webcam, they might help mitigate the issue to some extent.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
