HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000 (169X0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop is out of warranty by a few months. I am super careful with it, and have never spilled anything on it or dropped it. I was using my laptop the other day and all of a sudden the hinge broke. I rarely ever use the 360 turn and was using my laptop in a regular way when this happened. Now the whole hinge is off and the inside of the hinge is now on my laptop. The laptop closes but is skew, and the laptop screen will fly backwards if nothing is behind it. Please help!! I am hesitant to ever buy HPs again if this is the type of issues they come with.

Hey Rach

Jogi here.

- U have to read the user guide or maintainance pdf for ur laptop model

- go to chapter "spare parts" and look for the number of the hinges

- buy the hinges

- watch a video how to repair such damaged display units

- buy an appropriate repair tool set for smartphones including a suction cup

-------

- open your laptop

- remove the bottom case of your laptop (need a special little screwdriver, which is mostly part of a repair set for smartphones too, using the suction cup is highly recommended)

- remove ur fan unit including head pipe, the motherboard, then remove the screws of the hinge parts which are connected to the mb

- Then you have 2 parts. And one of them is your display unit.

- Take the display unit and open it by using the repair tools

- replace the broken hinge with the new one and thats it.

Much success.

PS. Forgot something

You should also buy termal paste (artic mx-4 for example) and replace the old one of ur cpu/gpu (under the arm or ur heat pipe - For these steps exist videos on youtube too)
