I have an HP Envy 17-j165es, I would like to add a second ssd, but it only has a cable for one. I've been looking for hard drive cables on Colombian portals, which is where I am right now and I find for envy j15. Would that work for the J17 as well? Or what are the characteristics of the J17 to look for. Thank you

Hi @Carlos85,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Product Specifications:
- Review the technical specifications for both models (17-j165es and 17-j15) to determine if the configurations, particularly the hard drive setup, are identical.
- You can find these specifications on the HP Support website or the user manual for each specific model.
Physical Inspection:
- Open your laptop to inspect the existing hard drive cable for connectors and length. Compare this with the images or descriptions of the cable for the 17-j15 to see if they match.
Look for Universal Options:
- Some third-party vendors offer universal hard drive connectors and cables that are designed to fit multiple models. Ensure that these come with compatibility assurances or a return option.
- Check if the Envy series has any modular kits specifically designed for adding additional drives.
Considerations
- Drive Bay Availability: Ensure that your laptop has the physical space for a second SSD. Some models might require removing optical drives or other components to make room.
- Cable and Connector Specifications: Verify the connector type (SATA or otherwise) and ensure it matches what your HP Envy 17-j165es supports.
- Installation Quality: If you're unfamiliar with internal hardware installation, consider professional assistance to prevent damage to your laptop.
I hope this helps.
