HP Envy X360 m6 convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this laptop about 5 months ago. Since then, i'll be typing and the keyboard lags. Its like it doesn't register the space bar sometimes, combines words, misses letters, and is behind my typing. For example, it will insert a spacebar about 3 letters AFTER where i hit it.

I am not a fast typist but i am a writer and am spending considerable time fixing spelling errors because the system is behind my typing.

Is there any fix for this?

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I understand that you have an HP Envy X360 m6 convertible series laptop. I read that the keyboard is malfunctioning.I have read your post comprehensively. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Do you have an external keyboard available to check with?

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Open the device manager.
  • Expand "keyboard" and right click on the keyboard driver and select uninstall.
  • Restart the laptop.

PLease test the keyboard and in case the issue persists then let us run the hardware test on the keyboard. The below steps should help:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  • The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.

  • Select component test.

  • Keyboard - Quick interactive functional test of the keys on the keyboard. Click Keyboard, then Run once. The Keyboard Test time is 3 minutes.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. Good luck! 🙂

Thank you! I have three keyboards listed - 2 HID Keyboards and 1 standard PS/2 device. I do not have an external keyboard, only the laptop one. I have never installed an external keyboard. Which driver should I uninstall? All of them?

Hi @Bentley8,

I am the The_Fossette. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Yes, I recommend you to uninstall all the drivers listed and restart the computer and check.

Let me know how it goes.

I tried both of these and nothing helped. I'm still having problems. Any other thoughts?

Hi,

glad to hear from you. 🙂 I truly appreciate your efforts.

If you ran the hardware test on the keyboard as mentioned in my earlier post and if the test did not run on the keyboard then it indicates a hardware issue with the keyboard.

In such a case I suggest you to reachout to our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for the laptop.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions. Take care! 🙂

I did run the test and tested every key and it said everything was fine. I had to press every key. Was there something else that was involved in the test?

Thanks for replying with the results.

You have performed the keyboard test the right way. And the results indicate towards a software issue.

Now, we can perform a Windows Refresh (repair). Windows 8 includes a feature called Refresh your PC that allows you to refresh your computer without affecting your files. This can be useful to recover from a problem. The Refresh option is primarily a repair method - a way to return your computer to a known good state. The following list shows what happens when you refresh your computer:

  • Your files and personalization settings such as libraries, user accounts, and desktop themes are saved.

  • The computer settings are returned to the defaults.

  • Apps from the Windows store are reinstalled, and the settings are reset to their defaults. Internet connectivity is not required to reinstall these apps.

  • Desktop apps are removed unless they were installed by the computer manufacturer. At the end of the refresh process, an HTML file called Removed Apps.html is placed on the desktop with a list of the desktop apps that were removed.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

WIll this work on windows 10?

I forgot to mention. Though these steps are mentioned for Win8, they will still work for Win10 too.

Good luck!
