I have an HP Envy X360 Ryzen 7 4700U that is just out of warranty and it no longer keeps the correct time when powered off. It has been doing this for a while but I thought it was a Windows 11 quirk.
I didn't realize until I booted directly into the BIOS after having it shut down that the real time clock was behind.
The BIOS was updated about a month ago and it seems to be the latest version.
With older PCs I would have changed the CMOS battery but I understand this model no longer has a separate battery.
The battery holds charge and lasts well.
Has anyone else come across this and is there a suggested fix?

Hi @Pipsicle,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Since you mentioned that this unit does not have the option of a CMOS battery,
Update BIOS Firmware:
- Sometimes, a BIOS update can address issues related to the RTC. Visit HP's official support website and check if there are any BIOS updates available for your specific laptop model. If there are, follow the instructions to update the BIOS.
Check Date and Time Settings in BIOS:
- Enter the BIOS settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Delete during startup) and check if the date and time settings are correct. If they are incorrect, set the correct date and time and save the BIOS settings.
Check Time Synchronization in Windows:
- After booting into Windows, make sure that your operating system is synchronizing its time with a reliable time server. To do this:
- Right-click on the clock in the taskbar and select "Adjust date/time."
- Ensure that "Set time automatically" and "Set time zone automatically" are turned on
Check for Windows Updates:
- Sometimes, Windows updates can address issues related to timekeeping. Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date by checking for and installing any available updates.
Check for Third-Party Software Interference:
- Third-party software or utilities, particularly those that optimize or manage power settings, may interfere with the RTC. Try disabling or uninstalling any such software temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.
Hardware Diagnostic Test:
- Some HP laptops have built-in hardware diagnostic tests that you can run to check for potential hardware issues. Check your laptop's documentation for instructions on how to run these tests.
If the issue persists after trying the above steps, and if your laptop is still under warranty, it's advisable to contact HP internal support for further assistance. They can help diagnose and resolve hardware-related issues with your laptop's RTC.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
