I have an Envy laptop with integrated webcam. All of a sudden, the webcam isn't working and cannot be found in device manager. Tried calling HP support but get hung up after waiting a couple of hours. Any help is appreciated, especially from HP. I have tried googling and did all the tricks and still nothing.  Thanks in advance for any help

Try ...

Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help resolve the following issues:

  • An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
  • The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
  • HP Support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.

@UB6424 I have tried those also and same results. Seems like there is a physical issue with the webcam. I can click the cam oh/off button next to the f12 key and I see it turn on/off and the whitish thing goes over the camera lens on the screen. ANything else?

With all due respect. I have. 1. The camera doesn't show up in Device Management at all. 2. No web cam software sees the camera including the built in camera app in Windows 11 3. The HP website doesn't have any webcam driver software to download and I have downloaded any and all updates from hp for this device. 4. I plug in an USB webcam and it sees that device but not the builtin webcam that came with the laptop.

Hello @mkahler

Well, it could be a technical defect of camera or wires from camera to mainboard are broken. The camera itself does not need separate drivers, it is always plug-on-play and recognized by <windows>.

In your case: Service is required !

- webcam and wire check / replace

HP warranty vaild -> Contact HP Support

HP warranty expired:
If you can't do that, you should have it serviced by a professional notebook (chip level) repair store.

Good luck
