my HP Envy does not work at all and the battery charging light (LED) is not shining or blinking whether I use the original charger or a substitute.

Hi @RHolstonQB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding why your HP Envy laptop is not starting!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Power Connection:

  • Ensure the power outlet is functioning properly by connecting another device.
  • Double-check that the charger is firmly connected to both the power outlet and your HP Envy laptop.

Inspect the Charger:

  • Use the original HP charger that came with your laptop, if available.
  • Inspect the charger cable for any visible damage, and try using a substitute only if the original is not working.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the charger from the laptop.
  • Remove the battery if it’s removable. If it’s not, then skip this step.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery (if removed) and the charger, then try turning on the laptop.

Try a Different Power Outlet:

  • Sometimes the issue could be with the wall socket. Attempt using a different socket to ensure there’s no issue with the power source.

Check for Overheating:

  • If the laptop was running for a long period, it might have overheated. Let it cool down before trying to power it on again.

Examine the Laptop Hardware:

  • If possible, check for any overheating or damage to components inside the laptop, such as the RAM, which might affect the startup process.
