Envy x360 15-cp0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

How many RAM slots are in the HP Envy x360 convertible 15-cp0xxx? It came with 8GB of RAM, but I would like to add an additional 8GB.

Memory Supports DDR4 1.2-V 2666 and 2400 memory in the following conƭgurations
● 16-GB (8-GB × 2)
● 12-GB (8-GB + 4-GB)
● 8-GB (8-GB × 1 or 4-GB × 2)

Service Manual

Start on p. 24 to remove the bottom cover. RAM slots are under an "L" shaped metal shield you have to remove.

This Manual does not help as it does not explain how to remove the L-shaped shielding. On the page where it instructs you on how to access the memory module, it says to remove the bottom panels and the battery. This does no good though because under the batter is only the trackpad, and it doesn’t say anything else on the memory page. It only says to remove the back panel and battery.

You remove the battery not to uncover anything but to keep electricity from shorting out something on the motherboard. The L shaped shield is held to the motherboard with little clips and all you have to do is take a screwdriver and push one side in a little and the clips will unhook and you can lift the shield off. I agree the Manual should show this but it is intended for experienced technicians who would know this.

Yes, I soon after I posted the comment, I discovered the little clamps holding the shielding down and unhooked them. Although I do have a question, two of the little clamps snapped off when trying to hook the shielding back in and I didn’t want to anymore to break so I left it loose. The bottom panel is keeping it the shielding in place though because it does not rattle around. But my question is, would it be safe if I just removed the shielding all together, or should I keep it inside? I was originally just going to leave it out but then I noticed a patch of tape that was attached to the shielding, that was covering part of the cooling system.

You are much better off with the shield but it does not figure into the actual operation of the laptop. So you could leave it out. There must be a way you could tape it down or something.
