I've had this laptop for 2.5 years. Thus, it is now out of warranty.
This morning I opened my laptop off my desk, and the left hinge snapped, leaving the bottom left side of the monitor disconnected from the back casing.
I have little experience with computers and no idea how to fix them. As of now, I am attempting to leave the monitor tilted forward, as that lessens the popping-out of the screen. (If anyone has any advice on if this is even a good idea and other supportive measures, please let me know). As of now, the computer seems to be functioning correctly aside from needing to be tilted, but I worry about its portability now that the structure is compromised.
This seems to be a very common issue with these devices, so I am wondering if anyone has gotten this fixed and how.

Statistically that is actually a very small percentage compared to the number of units sold, so no it is not really common.
I have had three x360 notebooks over a period of a decade and have never had it happen to one of mine.
I have relatives who have owned multiple units of the same type of x360 notebooks who have also had the same experience as myself.
I am sorry to hear of your experience, but it is not a common thing amongst the millions of members of this forum.
You can take the notebook to a shop or call them and ask for a quote on the repair.
If it is still working, I wouldn't move it, unless enroute to get a repair, because of the risk of breaking the ribbon cable connection.

Hi Erico,
Seeing as there is literally a class action lawsuit for this issue I have to disagree with you on the low commonality.
Case studies are not valid evidence but I am glad you and your family have not experienced this issue. Personally I am the third in mine for this to happen to their HP Envy laptops.
I appreciate your advice on not moving the laptop. I have left it stationary since bringing it to a repair shop and them telling me the issue is not fixable without directly contacting HP for a replacement back casing. I am now in the process of attempting to get that sorted out, but I will not be purchasing another laptop with hinges of this kind.
I was told by an HP representative at the repair shop that this fault is due to the company’s use of recycled plastics to create their hinges’ casings. I respect their mission but it has clearly led to structural weakness.

The shop can order the rear part of the display. They just are not taking the time to do it.
I will look in the Maintenance & Service guide to see if I can locate the part number.

See Chapter 3 Illustrated parts catalog, page 22, item, 9
The part will be one of these two depending on the color of your laptop. It appears that the price for the back cover is about $50.00.

I would have the hinges replaced with new ones at the same time.
