I have been having an issue for a while where my laptop will occasionally shut off on its own. This almost always happens when the laptop is stored in my bag and I am walking. I do not notice it until I get home and attempt to use it again. When it happens, it is difficult to turn the laptop back on again; simply pressing the power button does not work as it usually does, I instead have to hold down the power button for about ten seconds before repeatedly pressing the power button until it lights up.
This issue is frustrating, but manageable. However recently it has escalated. Now, the issue happens at random times, multiple times a day. This often happens when the laptop is plugged in, which causes the laptop to get very hot, since the fan controller is off. If I unplug the laptop and put it in my bag, the high temperature can run down the battery considerably, sometimes dropping 50% in a matter of minutes. This has made it very difficult to use the laptop consistently, as I need it to do work. I am also worried that the excessive heat of the uncooled battery will irreversibly damage the internal components of the laptop.
Is this an issue that can be resolved with an windows/bios update? If not, should I send it back to HP for a warranty repair or just take it to a local place?
Thanks in advance.

HP Envy x360 Random shut off causing overheating and running down battery
Actually another way around. Due to heat machine will shut it off to protect itself from damages.

It need good ventilation to keep it cool. Now you put it in a bag, the heat will build up.
Please keep your machine cool otherwise you mat get un-predictable damages.

One thing may help a lot: turn OFF machine before put it in a bag.
Regards.
