HP Envy x360 13-ar0501sa with Windows 11 ver. 24H2 has developed an intermittent fault whereby typing keys enters either the wrong character, typically the shift character for the key, or no character. A re-boot solves the problem but it always comes back, seemingly at random. I've tried to update the PS2 keyboard driver but there doesn't appear to be one compatible with this model laptop with Windows 11. I'm assuming this is a software issue as a re-boot fixes it...until the next time!
Any thoughts gratefully received.

@DavidGYS, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like you're experiencing keyboard issues on your HP Envy x360 13-ar0501sa with Windows 11. Here are some steps that you can try to help resolve this problem:
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is up to date. Often, new updates include patches for known bugs.
Update or Reinstall Keyboard Driver:
- Even if a specific driver update wasn't found, you can try uninstalling the current driver and letting Windows reinstall it.
- Go to Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click on your keyboard device and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop to allow Windows to reinstall the default driver automatically.
Check Keyboard Settings:
- Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & region.
- Ensure your language and keyboard layout settings are correct.
- Under Preferred languages, select your language and check the Options to make sure the appropriate keyboard layout is set.
Run Keyboard Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
- Select Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Keyboard troubleshooter.
BIOS Update:
- Check for any available BIOS updates for your laptop model, as these can sometimes resolve hardware compatibility issues.
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your specific model to find the latest BIOS updates.
Check for Malware:
- Run a full antivirus scan to ensure that the issue is not caused by malware or viruses.
Try an External Keyboard:
- Connect an external keyboard to verify if the issue still occurs, which might help determine if it's a hardware issue with your laptop's built-in keyboard.
System Restore:
- If the issue started after a recent change, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a point before the problem began.
Check Accessibility Options:
- Ensure that features like Filter Keys or other accessibility settings are not affecting keyboard performance.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Garp,
Many thanks for your response. I've already tried some of the points you've suggested, but I haven't tried uninstalling the keyboard driver as I was worried that if there wasn't a compatible driver (with both the laptop & Win11) this might cause problems. With your reassuring input on this I will now try this. I also did find that there is an update for the BIOS but was very nervous about trying it as I've read some horror stories about this basically bricking the laptop. Is this a safe procedure?
I will also check accessibility settings &, if all else fails, a system restore.
A frustrating aspect of this problem is that it's intermittent & it can be multiple days between occurrences, so there's no easy way of knowing if a particular action has had any effect until the fault either re-occurs...or doesn't! I will provide feedback on this but it may be a while before I can do this.
Thanks again.
David.

Hi @DavidGYS,
Thank you for your response
I understand your concerns about uninstalling the keyboard driver and updating the BIOS. Uninstalling the driver should be safe—Windows should reinstall it automatically. As for the BIOS update, it’s usually fine if you follow the instructions carefully, and as long as your laptop is plugged in and you don’t interrupt the process, it should go smoothly.
I know intermittent issues are tough to deal with. It can be hard to know if something worked until it happens again. But I’m here to help whenever you get more feedback.
Let me know how it goes when you try those steps!
Take care and have a good day.
