Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone! I'm new here! I have this laptop that I own for years now and wanted to give it a refreshment. It's the HP G62-b98SV Notebook PC. Although the auto-detect system finds it, I am ending up on a page with no results of any drivers or firmware that I'm looking for. I wanted to install 2x4GBs (1066Mhz SO DIMM DDR3) on it, and as of now, it only reads the 4gigs... (Someone told me that I can't go further). So I was wondering if any BIOS Update would fix the problem at all?
1) Do I have any BIOS Updates ( I couldn't find them anywhere) ??
2) Can my laptop support 8GBs of RAM? (Obviously it will need some update somewhere ).
3) You are all amazing and thank you in advance and for your patience. Sorry for the length of the message. 😊

Hi:

I cannot find any specs on your notebook.

Does it have an Intel or AMD processor?

The reason you cannot find any drivers or information on your notebook is because HP retires support for all consumer class PC's that have reached 10 years of age.

Yeah I really don't know why there are no specs for my Laptop. It's an Intel Dual Core P6100 2.0Ghz one. I've tried multiple times changed the positions of the RAMS and it looks like after a few more tries and switches it really recognized all 8GBs of RAM, and it read the 870 Evo just fine. Maybe I shouldn't update the BIOS after all yes?

By the way thank you so much for the instant reply!

You're very welcome.

The service manual indicates that 2 x 4 GB of memory is supported.  See chapter 1.

The intel specs for your notebook's processor indicate that it can support 8 GB of memory.

Intel® Pentium® Processor P6100

It is very difficult to find the right memory for notebooks with the Arrendale processor family.

You can read this discussion which shows what I am writing about.

So, I do not believe a BIOS update will resolve the memory issue, because I would bet that you installed memory that didn't match what I wrote about.

The good news is that this reputable 3rd party website has drivers that would work for your notebook, since the model also has an Intel processor and chipset.   But there aren't any for W10.

I do not recommend that you update the BIOS unless you can reinstall Windows 7, because the file was written to be run on Windows 7, not Windows 10, and there is no telling what might happen if you try to update the BIOS in W10.
