I installed a Intel Core2 Duo P8700 in my HP G71-347CL and i get a black screen with fans going and then dying and then turning off and then it turns on again by itself and stays on but still no screen. According to this manual, https://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01713747.pdf, the P8700 is the best one I could put in, no? Ive tried resetting CMOS, resetting CPU itself, updating BIOS.

The parts list for your notebook indicates that it comes with a motherboard with an Intel GL40 chipset.
https://partsurfer.hp.com/?searchtext=VM116UA
The GL40 chipset only supports processors with up to an 800 MHz FSB.
The P8700 has a 1066 MHz FSB which is why it doesn't work.
The best processor you can install in your notebook would be the Intel Pentium T9500.
IMHO, that would be a better option than the T6600 listed in the manual.
Here's a side-by-side comparison of the two:

Only the G71 models that come with the Intel GM45 or PM45 chipset support the 1066 MHz FSB processors.

You're very welcome.
Yes, the P8700 won't work in your notebook or any other 1066 MHz FSB processor.
The T9500 was the fastest 800 MHz Pentium processor developed as far as I'm aware.
If you look at the T9600 for example, you will find that it has a 1066 MHz FSB.
Glad the P8700 was only $10 lost.
You have a Happy Thanksgiving too, and please post back and let us know how your T9500 processor upgrade went if you decide to have another go at it.
I believe the T9500 will probably run you about $20 - $25.
