HP Laptop - 14-fq0041nr

Hi all, I had this issue from month since I bought this laptop 14-fq0041nr  , it CPU [AMD 3020e] frequency went down occasionally to 0.4GHz which makes the laptop almost unusable sometime I can't move the mouse cursor, I'm using the latest BIOS

There is no heat throttle It's winter here, and I didn't boost the CPU much, so what's wrong with this laptop ?

After search on this issue, looks likely it's related to BIOS/firmware tells the CPU the laptop now is in Sleep mode ( power state C1 )  which gets the CPU to lower it frequency to 0.4GHz

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing CPU issues with the HP Laptop.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to the latest BIOS F.53 from HP.COM.
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.

If issue still persist then run the system test using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.

  1. Start or restart the computer.
  2. Press F2 repeatedly during start up to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.
  3. Select System Test
  4. Click Run Once.

Once the test completes, results are displayed on the screen.

If the test passes, continue to restore a computer back to the factory default using Reset PC within windows, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi thanks for reply I just notice it,

I'm using the latest BIOS F.53 for this module, download it from the drivers' section .

I used HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility and didn't detect the issue,

I'm using Arch Linux now (I know it's unsupported OS)  , but I used All updated for Windows 10 (when it was installed on it) and didn't solve the issue bit.

It's very clear to this CPU somehow trigger the power save mode and down clock it frequency to 400MHz which from what I read its Sleep Mode Frequency.

Too bad for me When I decide to contact to direct support the Laptop warranty were expired couple days ago, I don't mind going for the paid support option if it will solve me issue,  since this laptop becomes almost useless to me when it down clocked to 400MHz .

I'm not CPU/BIOS expert but, I have some knowledge on how OS works (specially Linux) , from my knowledge even if there is BIOS firmware issue, once the OS take the Boot process should take full control of the CPU/the system, but I don't understand why this CPU take thing (on it own) and change the power mode?
