HP Laptop - 14s-er0003tu

Thanks everyone for giving me this platform to put up my question.

I have this model HP 14S-ER0003TU Laptop (10th Gen Core i5-1035G1/8GB/1TB HDD + 256GB SSD/Windows 10/MSO/FHD), 35.56 cm (14 inch).

It's existing RAM is 8 GB and I want to expand it to 16GB as product description says that it is upgradable to 16 GB.

Now confusion is Would this system have one slot where I need to take out 8 GB and put in 16 GB or it has two slots where I can add one more 8 GB Ram to increase the memory

Amazon Link --> https://www.amazon.in/HP-Processor-14-inch-Windows-14s-er0003TU/dp/B089P9JV71/ref=sr_1_1?crid=25ZTKE...

Amazon link says below

  • Memory & Storage: 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 RAM, upgradable to 16GB | Hybrid Storage: 256GB M.2 SSD + 1TB 5400 RPM HDD

Many thanks in advance for the reply!!

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the service manual your notebook has one memory slot.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 14s Laptop PC

The manual states that 8 GB is the max, but you can probably install a 16 GB chip in the single slot.

Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT16G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com

Chapter 5, page 25 of the manual shows the location of the single memory bank.

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

@Paul_Tikkanen

Thanks a ton Paul for quick reply and getting me out of this confusion. 😀

So I can say that my laptop has only single channel/slot to upgrade the RAM though Going through Chapter-1 where it talks about only 4 & 8 GB like you mentioned. After installing 16 GB how would  I get the gurantee that it is going to reflect 16 GB after installing one else my money would get wasted totally on purchasing 16 GB RAM.

I ran the commands and it gave me below result which looks to show 32 GB. I am not sure whether it is correct.

Does it mean that I can even try going for 32GB RAM as well on a single slot. Screenshot pasted for your review.

Just if you can reply one more time to make a decision on it would be very much helpful for me.

Thanks a ton in advance!!

You're very welcome.

I recommend that you stick with installing 1 x 16 GB of memory.

The 32 GB report may be assuming that your notebook has 2 memory slots.

Thanks much again!!

One last question , my wife is using below model

HP14s-cr2000tu core i5 10th Gen 14" (35.56cms) FHD Laptop (8 GB/256 GB SSD/1TB HDD/Windows 10/MS Office 2019/Natural Silver /1.43kg)

Could you please share the manual  pdf file for this version as well? I already checked the one you shared does not have info about this model. We just wanted to know about this model as well how many slots does it have

Thank you very much!!

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, HP does not have a service manual for that model series.

They do have a maintenance and service guide for the older 14s-cr1000 model series though.

According to chapter 1 of the service manual, that model series has two memory slots and can support up to 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Perhaps the 14-s-cr2000tu can support 2 x 16 GB of memory since it has an Intel 10th gen core processor.

The Crucial memory report indicates that it can support 2 x 16 GB of memory, and you can run the windows command and see if that can be confirmed.
