Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook:

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

The memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1.

Since the manual covers the original 15-ef0xxx model series, the 16 GB maximum may not be 'cut in stone.'

You can run this command to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

I recommend Crucial memory because they usually have reports that indicate what memory is compatible with your notebook.

The is the 8 GB memory chip Crucial indicates is compatible with your notebook:

Crucial 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA32A | Crucial IN

This is the 16 GB memory chip (if the report you run indicates the notebook will support 32 GB:

Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT16G4SFRA32A | Crucial IN

You can buy the memory on Amazon or at the Crucial USA website.

DRAM, Solid State Drive (SSD) & Memory Upgrades | Crucial.com

As far as a no no... don't try to figure out how to upgrade the memory on your own.

Read chapters 4 and 5 of the service manual first.
