Hi, Merry Christmas to all.

Really hoping someone can help. I bought my son a laptop a few years ago, he hardly used it and shortly after the warranty ran out it stopped working. It's been sat on a shelf for the last year, now he needs a laptop, typical.

The laptop simply doesn't turn on. I plug it in, press the power button, it flashes 3 times and that's it. I've removed the battery, done the same, nothing. Nowt on the screen at all. I've held the power button in the ages still no joy.

Any ideas are very welcome.

Best wishes,

Martin

Indeed, this had not been indicated.
If the power charger is not the right one that can explain that.
Only, there could be another problem, but to be fixed, it would be better to have the right one!

Hello
We would have to check what this corresponds to here:
either it is at the power supply that it flashes or as described:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674

Memory
LEDs blink 3 times
Module error not functional
Reseat the memory. See the section Reseating memory modules in a notebook for more information.
If reseating the memory does not resolve the problem, try replacing the memory modules.

unless it's not that type of blinking but

he white LED light for the AC power blinks. The blinking indicates the battery is still in shipping mode, even with the notebook connected to AC power.

Hi, thanks for your response but the issue is still here.

The laptop doesn't boot at all, no lights on the keyboard, the only light is near the power input, this white light flashes 3 times. Nothing else. No other lights.

I've stripped the laptop down, removed the memory and tried booting with no memory modules installed, still the same issue, just three flashes of the light near the power input. NO keyboard response at all.

Any other ideas are very welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is the reason for my request for clarification
So, the problem is at the power supply level,
Difficult however to say if the replacement of the battery and / or the power supply will suffice!
There is this topic here for example:
The best would be either to try to contact Hp directly, or to consult a professional, the latter can perhaps try a new power supply

try this :

remove the battery and try to start without

Thank you. I have a similar model and have tried that power supply on the broken laptop. My son lost the original psu so I'm using mine to test, it fits but doesn'#t work. So not sure if its a laptop issue or I'm using the wrong psu. I don't want to buy a new one when it might no be the psu that is at fault. But, I guess I'll have to. A bit of a waste of money if after I buy a psu it's still broken. Thanks for your help.
