DESIGN DEFECT - My laptop is about 2 years old. I paid for top of the line so that it would last. I purchased it directly from HP.  I have been very careful with it.  It still functions great - but the darn case is falling apart and rendering it unusable!  This is absolutely a design defect.  The case started cracking a few weeks ago in a few stress crack related places near the hinge and recently the back case just cracked so that I can not close the computer and can not move it much or it will break the touch screen.  I love the 17 inch screen but the body of the computer is defective in that it was not made to support the weight of the screen and the hinge is not made to support it either.  A new back cover costs over $150 for the part alone (not including labor)!  Since this is an HP design defect, will HP do anything to fix the matter?  I have a person who will perform the labor for a reasonable cost - if HP can supply the part, I can have it fixed.

HP has built a 'customer service' tower which is built to tell you "no."  Very disappointed.  I used to be a very good customer having purchased 3 computers directly from HP in the past couple of years.
