Thanks for your reply. That does seem to have solved my problem! I've typed a few paragraphs into notepad as a test and had no key repeats so far. I guess if I can finish typing this post reply without any incidents, that's confirmation of problem solved!
I'm so relieved. I was not looking forward to the prospect of spending ages on the phone (at my own ongoing expense) with HP trying to get a solution, and I really didn't want to have to send off my brand new laptop for repair, which I've just finished setting up with all my personal programs and files.
One weird thing though, is I now get a brief beep every time I press a key. I think it's something to do with to the accessibility settings, so I'll have a poke around with that. I might have inadvertantly turned on something without realising.
