Hi @Dominictan21,

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance regarding issues with the computer not shutting down correctly. For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
  • Did it occur after a software or Windows update?
  • Does it not shut down from within Windows?

For now please try these steps:

Please perform a hard reset from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768

and check if the issue gets resolved.

If it does, please try these commands to try and shut down windows:

  • Go to Search, type power options and click on Power Options from search results
  • needed, click on Change settings that are currently unavailable, under Define power buttons and turn on password protection
  • From the enabled options under Shutdown settings section, uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) check box to disable Hybrid Shutdown.
  • Click Save changes button to save the modified settings.
  • Close Power Options window when done. the left side of the window click on Choose what the power button does

Solution 2: Perform A Full Shutdown

Another way to turn off your computer without Hybrid Shutdown is to perform a full shutdown, to do that, follow these steps:

Right-click on your Desktop.

Go to New, and click on Shortcut.

For “Type the location of the item,” input this:

shutdown -F -T ## -C “Your message here” (## can be any number from 0 and 315360000, and “Your message here” could be any text you want))

Click Next.

Name the shortcut by your wish

Right-click the shortcut on from your desktop and click Properties.

Change the icon of the shortcut by your desire, just for the aesthetic reasons

Pin the shortcut to your start menu and you’re good to go.

The other way to shut down the computer would be to hold down the power button for several seconds till the computer powers down and restart the computer again and check if the issue gets fixed.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂
